CAROLINE CHARLES: THE END OF VINTAGE HUNTING?

So far, most of us have only known this sort of thing from posters, postcards and silent movies. The collection is such a lesson in fashion history that it makes you want to be a lady with a capital L just to see it all in action again.

FIFTIES BIKER CHIC

Not long ago, I fell in love with this sheer colour block shirt, so much that I had to have it right away, along with a couple of things I thought would do it justice, namely the skinny wetlook biker jeans and the simplest kitten heel courts to create my (totally false) 50s biker chick look with a slight twist.

ORLA KIELY: JUMP IN WITH ME

Softly faded holiday snaps come alive in Orla Kiely’s spring collection, as a gang of retro kitsch rebels take a trip down mum’s memory lane, shaking their backsides in a sun-drenched forest, on the beach or by the pool.

CORRIE NIELSEN: "THERE WAS SOMETHING FASCINATING IN THIS SON OF LOVE AND DEATH"

Gothic art calls for a gothic review."[B]eauty, real beauty, ends where an intellectual expression begins." Now, shall we talk about modular origami, fashion history, a Japanese twist?

PAUL COSTELLOE: KISS YOUR SIXTIES FLICK GOODBYE

In his spring/summer 2012 collection, brimming with the same opulence in jacquard and soft pearly metallics as the ones before, bigger, balloon-like shapes take centre stage. A sadness at first glimpse - our beloved designer moves away from the A-lined, big buttoned dresses and coats of his own feisty 1960s flick chicks (sporting 1970s colours), and dives into a sea of peach fuzz and sugar syrup.

HOUSE OF HOLLAND VS. CHRISTOPHER KANE: SHOW YOU MINE

With just four days before London Fashion Week kicks off I couldn't help but dedicate a bit of in-between-shows musing to uber-cool Brits Henry Holland and Christopher Kane, whose a/w 2011 and resort 2012 collections seem to have a bit too much in common...

PHILOSOPHY DI ALBERTA FERRETTI: A STRANGE INSPIRATION

Following a longish hiatus, ie. time spent stressing over a demanding project at new job, it is higher than high time I resumed activity. The cue, however, was not a natural urge to get back (these days I would rather sleep all day if I could), or some insane urge to complete mission impossible (there is simply too much to cover), but pure inspiration. Leafing through my favourite magazine I came across a single image from the Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti show that I just wanted to add to the blog, along with this vintage style outfit post: Sweet Surrender. So, there you go.

SUGAR-CANDY SIXTIES: SWEET SURRENDER

As mentioned in this catwalk report, I was inspired to switch back to blogging mode by a single still image from the Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti show packed with pastel candy colours, and to throw on a few pieces shiny and new, trashy and plain, retro and vintage - you will easily tell which is which.

BOLD SAFARI

I need a safari skirt, safari shorts, a safari dress, a safari playsuit, safari everything. How about you?

TREND: CRAZY FOR COLOUR BLOCKING

Since Earn Your Stripes, you know how I'm over the moon with the colour blocking revival, and how it's time to make a real statement. Here, I just wanted to take the opportunity to show you around the amazing high street choice, trying to guess just how much fun designers must have had while playing around with the trend.

MAKE LIKE A TOURIST AT HOME

I think we can agree that Monday bank holidays are heaven sent, but they seem even more so when on a Sunday night, you realise you've been too tired all week-end to step out. And so, warm and sunny summer Monday in the city, here I come!

EARN YOUR STRIPES

Colour blocking is as retro and as now as it can possibly get.

EIGHTIES JEANS, SEVENTIES STYLE

I have had these straight leg jeans by Gap for a while. They are well cut, at least for a high waisted pair probably made in the 1980s, with the right sized back pockets placed at the right height. Just begging for being played around with like it's the 1970s...

LONDON FASHION WEEK: CRAIG LAWRENCE, J JS LEE, JW ANDERSON

TREND: HIPPIE ROCKER RELOADED

Just a few days ago I had some fun with this outfit post

Using some of my good old stuff, I decided to bring the springfest atmosphere closer to home and create a look I labelled as feeling like rock & roll and looking like a hippie.

FESTIVAL COOL: A HIPPY HIPPY SHAKE

With festival season well on the way since Coachella, everything is about music and open-air fun, I decided to turn today's outfit into a relaxed spring festival look on a whim.

GREYCATTEWEAR & GREYCATTETRENDS

Hey guys, more fashion week flash reports are coming up shortly!

In the meantime, please check out my latest posts in new sections GreyCatteTrends and GreyCatteWear if you haven't already, and let me know what you think!

PLEATS & PLATFORMS: SIMPLY DOES IT

The latest addition to my collection of dresses has been screaming non stop for an outing since I got it. Apparently, today was the day.

TREND: HEELED LOAFERS ARE KEEPERS FOR NEXT SEASON

While writing this outfit post, I mentioned how heeled loafers would make the coolest accessories of vintage inspired looks. Towards the end of last year, I fell head-over-heels for some of these loafers, especially those with platforms.

THOU SHALT CLASH THY PRINTS

Possibilities are endless when it comes to one of this season's key commandments, so you will surely see me working on that - starting now.

HEY THERE

Welcome to the party! I've always wanted to do my own outfit photo posting, but have been putting it off 'til the time is right. By now I know it will never be, so might as well take the plunge.

TREND: BAGS OF STYLE

I know, I know! I could, and possibly should have written this post on satchels about eight months ago, when it was the next big trend, to be there when it started with Mulberry's Alexa, catapulted to It-Bag status by Miss Chung herself. But it's still not too late - these smart bags are here to say.

UP-AD-COMING DESIGNERS: ZAGABO

Yesterday I attended WAMP design fair in Budapest, and thought it should be fun to quickly review a few up-and-coming Hungarian designers that have caught my eye.

A MOOD PIECE, BURBERRY PRORSUM: LET IT SNOW

Best British uber-brand Burberry is about heritage made modern and irresistible, season after season.

A MOOD PIECE, TODD LYNN: ARMY OF ME

The combinations of fabric, leather and fur we are seeing all over the a/w 2011 catwalks are no mere coincidence.

LONDON FASHION WEEK A/W 2011: DAY FOUR, PART TWO

A MOOD PIECE, KINDER AGGUGINI: THE STORY OF MY IMMORTAL

Kinder Aggugini is the sort of favourite designer who comes up with something new each season. What doesn't change is the air of timelessness to his pieces, I'm thinking, as the the sirens in his clothes float by me. To me, his collections are episodes of a story.
