Softly faded holiday snaps come alive in Orla Kiely’s spring collection, as a gang of retro kitsch rebels take a trip down mum’s memory lane, shaking their backsides in a sun-drenched forest, on the beach or by the pool.
The signature 1960s twist? It’s all in the swing, sister, the lengths, the styling, a devil-may-care attitude paired with absolute sophistication.
First, I’m happy to report that, this season even psychedelic prints get a sunny makeover on dresses, trousers and trenches. Then, there’s crocheted pieces, nautical stripes and collars, tea dresses and tea-shirt dresses, shorts suits, colour blocking, peterpans and contrast trims, but don’t be fooled.
Our girls may be playing 1940s and 1950s dress-up, but they are no wallflowers. Orla’s feast of near-unbearable cuteness is always the hippest of ‘em all.
DO. NOT. MISS. Orla’s collection film by Mercedes Helnwein, is one of the best I’ve seen. Short and sweet, ever so slightly creepy, but bursting with a crazy-artsy vibe and, something you may have learnt not to expect from the genre – doing justice to the clothes! JUMP. IN. NOW.
